Hacking VoIP and War Rocketing

Two interesting stories I came across today, the first is about a new book titled Hacking Exposed VoIP. They provide a download page with several security tools they wrote specifically for this book. It covers everything from scanning and enumeration to discover what services/equipment is being used to DOS attacks to phishing schemes. This looks like a good read for anyone running VoIP services to help harden their security.

The book won’t be out until December, 2006 – but you can pre-order it via Amazon.com.

Hacking Exposed VoIP: Voice Over IP Security Secrets & Solutions
by David Endler and Mark Collier
List Price: $49.99
Paperback – 512 pages

The second is about a new way to “wardrive” (the act of searching for Wi-Fi networks by driving around) which the group who did it call War Rocketing. Read the article from SecurityFocus titled “War drive by rocket at 6,800 feet.” The group launched 3 access points which allowed them to detect networks up to 4 miles away and cover more than 50 square miles.
