Draft A Project To Make Money From The Web

If you do not know where you go, then any route you take is okey. This is so true that you tend to forget it. And when you arrive to nowhere you feel disappointed. It is very human to think that mana drop from heaven. It is very true that it does not happen. Only hail falls from sky.

Everything else requires a detailed plan. Do not waste your life wondering about the people who was born with a star on the forefront. They are like that as you are like you. It is what it is, you can not change that. You can change your future not your past. Do not waste your time and energy where is useless.

Moving forward you need to elaborate a project. It is better if you write it down. It is more brilliant the most tenuous trace of a pencil that the brightest memory. Take a pen and paper or your computer and write your plan down.

It may be you do bot have a single idea about the internet environment, so you need to escalate from the very beginning.

What do you want to achieve?

The answer to this question may also help you in your offline activitities. I am thinking you know nothing about planning. I am thinking of you like a person who vaguely heard about people getting money at internet and you wanted to do something similar.

You got stressed this day and decided to initiate your journey through this new adventure and learn how to get money. You may have entered internet before but just searching something without qondering you could become an internet entrepreneur. It may be you are not an offline entrepreneur and wanted to try.

So, you will need to learn not only how internet works but also how a business works, generally speaking. For example, one of the most important items is a business project, where you breakdown what is your business about, why it exists, where is going to be on the next 3 to 5 years and stuff like that.

You may notice that if the business plan covers 3 to 5 years and sometimes more years, is because you will need time to initiate your businesss and make a living from it. On internet business is alike. There are no quick ways that will give you money. There are highways to get money that take time and effort; and you will need to work through learning and then implementing your new knowledge.

There are differences between online and offline businesses, being one of them the way you interact with people. Usually in an offline shop you see people and talk to them, but in an online sales page, people just see a webpage and from there decides what to do.

You need to be aware of this difference. A lot of people will never be seen from your side and most of the time you will deal with e-mails, forums and blogs to meet people. That means no faces, no smiles, no eyes, no that kind of interaction that you may be used to. Nobody is pushing you, that is why a lot of netpreuners join discussion forums to interact with others alike.

You may want to do something similar. It helps you to notice you are not the only one reading those pages that call you to join the internet community searching to create a source of income.

Make sure you join a community with successful people who actually has gotten money from internet. There are countless webistes that generate only digital dust on internet. How can you check that people has made real money? You need to trust your instinct, because to know that is also a hard work.

I was visiting a page from a marketer who claims to be an internet marketer disclosing the difficulties that has to pay a car. That does not give me a good feeling. Most of people do not obtain money from internet. That is a fact. Because most of the people do not have a clue about how internet works. And also they leave the route without acquiring enough knowledge and implementing the knowledge they learn.

Do not get angry neither disencouraged by lack of results on the first months. You need to keep moving forward, doing trials with the techniques you learn, and above all implementing everything you find that seems promising. After a while you will have your own experience and knowledge and you can start to rebuild your own path to drive through the internet wilderness.

Do not quit very soon, try a new method. Another good characteristic of internet business is that you do not need money to begin with. You need time and openness to learn new things and try different ways. As long as you keep yourself in that direction you may have fun while forming your online business.

Remember the very first point: create your plan for the next 3 to 5 years, adapt it as you learn more and more and stick to it. Do not let other people to scam you. You do not need to invest money if you do not want. It will be a hard and long road. Enjoy it and make it your own style. You will receive the rewards from it.

Service availability script

A while back I realized my current server monitoring scripts were not doing enough to alert me when something went wrong, so I modified the existing script I was using to do more for my situation. Yesterday I decided I liked it so much that I should share… So in case you are looking for something like this, read on to see if it will meet your needs and feel free to download it and use/modify it for your own server(s).

Semi-Productive Weekend

I was thinking about how non-productive this weekend has been… Not that this is a bad thing. I enjoyed relaxing, watching TiVo and browsing the internet for funny videos and wierd news stories. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized – it wasn’t completely non-productive. As long as I did at least SOMETHING that needed to be done, right?

Well, I did fix myself something to eat a few times… that was needed. Seriously, I did work on a few side-projects and got them out of the way making room for me to hopefully work on more pressing issues next weekend. (Such as cleaning a path to the front door so maybe I can go outside and take pictures and get some fresh air)

I finally got around to getting one of my old machines back up on the server rack, FreeBSD 5.5 installed, and configured it to run as a secondary DNS server again. I hope to be adding a 3rd and placing it at Rogers house one of these days. This is all to provide backup DNS and Mail relay (store and forward) for my hosting company, SSA Host as well as allowing me to have my own seperate DNS/Mailservers for side projects and experiments without using the resources of my companys servers.

I also got my monitors off of my desk, and mounted to the arms I bought for them ages ago. This gives me much more desk space, and more room to attract clutter. At least I can still see the screens when I have junk piled up on the desk. It’s also better for my back as I find that I’m actually sitting back in my chair now instead of leaning over to see the monitors.

And perhaps most importantly, I removed the sparkly red cell-skin I had on my phone, and replaced it with the patriotic flag print skin – just in time for July 4th! Click on the thumbnails below to see pictures of my now-spacious desk and stylish Moto Razr :)

Aside from these little projects, I also managed to finally get KristopherEJ.com redone and back online. I’ve also moved the photo gallery over to the new site as well. Now, to just get that path cleared to the front door so I can leave once in a while to take more pictures to put in the gallery!

Wireless security with WPA-Radius EAP/TLS

I’ve had my Linksys wireless router for a while, and never really though much about security on it beyond a 128 bit WEP key, but while playing around in the setup screens, upgrading firmware, etc. I noticed now I have the option for WPA-Radius…

With my curiosity peaked, 2 FreeBSD boxes sitting around not doing much, and some free time I managed to get radiusd installed, configured it with a single client (my AP’s IP) and setup 2 users with the same login passwords Jamie and I use on our laptops. So regardless who is logged into which laptop, it will pass our login credentials via PEAP over an encrypted connection to request access from the AP.

After some mindless struggling I realized I needed to open the ports on the freebsd firewall for the access point’s IP to allow it to contact radiusd ;) Otherwise, it was fairly easy to setup – and I feel better about my wireless security now than before. If nothing more than to have a log of any failed login attempts. Besides, with a little more firewall tweaking and routing via one of my static IP’s, I could configure my Mom’s AP in California to work the same way, authenticating over the internet to my radius server…. not that I’m going to do it, that would be overkill and annoying to her if she can’t get on the internet because my server is down. Still a cool idea tho’ ehehe.
